Glimpses of Italy

This is the front door to our hotel in Reggio Emilia. Margaret had a small balcony right over the door, which was great for tracking when the students came home each night (or didn't) because we always slept with our windows wide open!
We found this great little courtyard one day when we were walking back from the conference. The students started taking senior type pictures of themselves on beautiful steps and by the pillars. It was fun!
This is one of the main streets in Reggio Emilia that is part of the ancient road that runs from west to east across northern Italy. We walked it daily to the conference. The weekend after our conference was the country's celebration of independence, so there were a lot of flags on display.
Just a shot of my crazy hair (don't look at the three empty bottles of wine that are in the pic). I didn't realize it, but my electric converter overroad my flat iron heat settings, and I burnt my hair from root to end. I could hardly get a comb through it, and when I would run my hand through it, it would stay in whatever place that left it (feels kind of like a brillo pad). I had to live with the great mass of melted hair for about a week, until the hotel owner in Rome hooked me up with a salon for a haircut. (80 Euro for the cut and $50 for hair products later) It is still fried and brillowy, but at least shorter and more manageable!

Oh man!! If it make you feel better, I thought your hair looked great last weekend, and now you can say you got your hair cut in Italy...
Imaginary scenario:
"Cheryl I love your hair!!!"
"Thanks, its from a salon in Italy. No big deal. They only give the best hair cuts in Italy you know, you should try it sometime!"
